It’s hard to exit the tranquillity on the Isle of Mull and back into city life.  Most people assume it’s the opposite - I can’t wait to dive back into the comforts of the city after “roughing” it for months on end.

When I am in these places of deep uninterrupted nature for long stretches, I have total peace of mind, total sovereignty of consciousness.  There Is no political war, no densely populated area of sick addicted, depressed humans spitting anger and hate; no corporations trying to subliminally make me their brain dead consumer at every turn. It’s just me and nature and the spiritual world.

While at times the spiritual world can be treacherous, I have all the tools of protection for this.  all nature wants is for me to breathe oxygen and exhale carbon so the trees can inhale carbon and exhale oxygen. thus, the symbiotic nature of life goes on in quiet harmony.

Out there in the perimeter, all my thoughts are mine. In cities I have to be careful as my consciousness is bombarded by entities wanting my attention, my energy, my money etc. I have to practise discernment.

And it’s not say I don’t love cities ! I do ! These treasures of humanity, a potpourric living monument to humanity ! I adore the energy, the adventure, the potential ! Yet, right now, with humanity veering so far off the righteous narrow path, these monuments are sick, infected, laboring to vibrate as they once did and I feel that acutely upon reentry.

Transitions back ….. I make sure to have a soft landing , soft exit , and at least spend one day in silence. I need to put my bare feet on the ground, walk amongst the trees and breath.

I recently sat in on a session with Sharon Blackie, an author who wrote “Women Rose Rooted”. The session was on Decent, resilience and reverence in catastrophic times”. It is Decent into the underworld, a place to be. According to Greek Mythology, Persephone, the queen of the underworld, was the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, the goddess of harvest and fertility.

The story resonated with my current situation of returning after 6 months on the Isle of Mull.

Descent is birth, it is the passage way to becoming. Descent as we know, can be hard, and one of the reasons I think this is, is because becoming is hard. Walking into the unknown, without the old safety net can be edgy, even when the old safety net was really not in line with what we want to walk towards, even if the safety net has been suffocating, it is still hard to release, for the unknown can feel so discombobulating.

Yet every winter nature descends in beauty, grace, courage and necessity. Following her own processes and cycles back into the heart of herself, back into her soul and soil.
